How to Pick Out Yarn
Picking out the right yarn when learning to crochet is the most important step. If you do not have the right yarn it will greatly inhibit your learning capability. While I bet you may want to immediately start off with the pretty fluffy yarns, or you may want to use super thin yarn to make a dollie, don't. Super fluffy yarns, thin yarns, and dark colored yarns is not something you should start off with. It is really hard to see your stitches with these yarns. The best yarn to start off with is a medium weight yarn in a regular color. (Note: The weight of a yarn is its size and can be found on the back label.) There are also different yarn types. The best type to begin with is worsted weight yarn. This type of yarn you can see is spiraled. You can see the stitches the easiest. Now a downside to this type of yarn is sometimes it can split. When a yarn splits it means your crochet hook goes through the fibers that make up the yarn.
Yarn 1: Yarn Bee, Soft and Sleek
I picked this yarn for many reasons. It is a great yarn. Its super soft and a great color. You can see your stitches great and it rarely splits. It has so many other colors and can be used for many things. This yarn be found at Hobby Lobby. (This color is Spice)
Yarn 2: Red HeartĀ® Super SaverĀ® Yarn
This is the yarn I learned to crochet on. It is pretty nice. It looks great and has many colors. It is pretty cheap, so if you are on a tight budget this yarn is a great choice. This yarn does split a little bit, but other than that it's a great starter yarn. This yarn is sold at Michaels and Joann Fabrics. (This color is Orchid.)
